The Jones Center is activating its Springdale campus in exciting new ways this summer by hosting an interactive survival-challenge exhibition and an outdoor music and movie night especially for children and families.
With amenities like the region’s only indoor ice arena and the world-class Runway Bike Park, The Jones Center has long been Northwest Arkansas’ leading destination for recreation, fitness, and learning. Now the stage is set for the Center to grow as an arts, culture, and entertainment venue with themed performances and curated programming in the heart of downtown.
The Worst-Case Scenario Survival Experience is a hands-on, minds-on, science-based exhibition where all ages can conquer real-world challenges with critical problem-solving and hilarious, full-body play.
Presented in English and Spanish – and translated in Marshallese – the exhibition is underway through November 13 at The JTL Shop, 614 E. Emma Ave. It comprises 5,000+ square feet of interactive gallery space featuring a Survival Gym with Challenges where daredevils can navigate a simulated avalanche in a giant Ball Pit and experience what it is like jumping from one moving vehicle to another on the Train Jump platform. Other challenges let guests detect if someone is lying, escape quicksand, and outsmart a mountain lion, while encouraging them to use ingenuity to solve problems with plenty of laughs along the way. Exhibition hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Tickets are available online at thejonescenter.net/special-exhibitions and at the door during exhibition hours.
Also, this summer, The Jones Center invites families to its campus for
Jones Center Cinema Plus, a free series connecting the community through film, food, and live entertainment. Held outdoors on The Jones Center’s plaza and great lawn, each evening includes live entertainment on stage, a children’s craft activity, and – once the sun goes down – a feature film showing. The next event will be Friday, August 12 with In the Heights Night beginning at 6:30 p.m. with a Make Your Own Maracas children’s activity, followed by entertainment by SSG Tropical Latin Band of NWA at 7:30 p.m. The feature film, In the Heights, a live action musical rated PG-13, starts at 8:30 p.m. Beer, wine and concessions are available for purchase.
