A total solar eclipse will be visible along a narrow track stretching from Texas to Maine on April 8, 2024. Marshallese in Keene, TX, Little Rock, AR, and Evansville, Indiana are in the direct path of this solar eclipse! People in Keene will see the eclipse between 1:40-1:45pm and in Evansville between 3:05-3:10pm.

For a few minutes, the Earth, Moon and Sun line up in such a way that the Moon blocks the light of the Sun. As it the moon passes in front of the sun, it will be as if it suddenly became dusk and even the crickets will think it’s night and start chirping. Just as quickly the light will come back. It is still not safe to look directly at the sun but you can use special glasses to look at the eclipse, just a ring of light around the moon’s profile. You can take pictures with a camera or look at the shadow on the ground.

Fayetteville and Springdale AR are just outside the direct path of the solar eclipse but the Sun will be 97.5% blocked by the Moon between 1:50-1:55 pm. The Jones Center will be providing solar glasses at their Fam Jam event for kids and families to use Monday afternoon to safely look at the solar eclipse. Springdale Public Schools will also be arranging for students to view the eclipse safely that afternoon.
