Meet Dana D Deree, Candidate for County Judge:

Deree’s campaign page in Marshallese says that while working with the U.S. Department of State, he helped achieve an agreement to prevent overfishing in the Marshall Islands. The campaign also says he supported legal efforts connected to the investigation of Paul Petersen, whose illegal adoption scheme involved Marshallese women and babies in Arkansas.

Deree is the son of an immigrant mother from Panama and a Spanish speaker. He grew up in foster care and aged out of the system when he joined the Marines. He served in the Gulf War as a Marine Corps combat veteran and later served as a Navy officer. He has also lived in Mexico, Honduras, and Nicaragua, and worked as a U.S. diplomat in the Pacific on issues in both Samoa and the Marshall Islands. He also founded Arkansas Global Connect, a business focused on legal seasonal employment pathways for workers and employers.

Deree has criticized the current county court as divisive and says he wants to represent every corner of Washington County. His campaign is focused on growth, affordable housing, infrastructure, green spaces, and bringing people together. He has also endorsed Faith Laukon who is running for Justice of the Peace.

Meet Faith Laukon, Candidate for Justice of the Peace, District 2:

Faith Laukon is a Marshallese community advocate running for the District 2 seat on the Washington County Quorum Court. Her campaign message is “Bridging Our Community—Every Voice, Every Day.”

Laukon has worked with the Arkansas Coalition of Marshallese, where she coordinated the Enrā Food Pantry when it opened during the COVID-19 pandemic. The pantry provided culturally familiar food and delivered groceries to families who could not leave home while quarantining. She has also worked with the Marshallese Educational Initiative and is a coauthor of a published study on a community-based diabetes prevention program for Marshallese Pacific Islanders.

Her community work extends to Springdale schools. At a May 2026 assembly at Southwest Junior High, Laukon encouraged students to pursue their goals and spoke about the growth of Pacific Islander student leadership in Northwest Arkansas. She is running against incumbent David Wilson for the District 2 seat.
